On November 9, 2022, Our Lord Jesus called Amiel Joe (Joey) Johnson, 66, from Lexington, Texas, home. Joey was born on November 20, 1955, in Austin, Texas to Mildred Rogers and Amiel Joe Johnson. Joey was baptized at Adina Christian Church at the age of 16 and later became a confirmed member of St. James Lutheran Church of Lexington. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1975 and went into the plumbing trade.
On May 21, 1977, he married his love, Debbie Wiggins, at Peace Lutheran Church in Texas City, Texas and settled in Lexington, Texas where they built a beautiful life and family.
Joey’s God given ability of working with his hands and mind was benefited by many. There was never a problem that Joey could not solve, and it was a joy for him to help others in need. He retired from Austin Energy in 2017 and those friendships continued and flourished through his retirement. Joey loved hunting and fishing and passed on that love to his children and grandchildren. He not only passed on those passions but so many other life skills to his family. His sense of humor was always on point. You never knew when his quick wit would keep you on your toes, and his grandchildren were a special target of his silly pranks.
He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Margarete (Mick) Krenz Wiggins.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Johnson and four children, Nathan (Lyndsey) Johnson, Sara (Brandon) Suttles, Michael (Celinda) Johnson, and Travis Johnson and Logan Dube. His grandchildren are Kaidyn, Bailey, Kamryn, Harley, Alex, Cannon, Connor and Charlee Johnson, and Lincoln, Kennedy, Ford and Grant Suttles. His family was the light of his life, and they will carry that with them always.
Survivors also include his father-in-law, Don Wiggins, his brother, Guy Johnson, brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry (Tina) Wiggins of Texas City, Leslie (Bob) McFarland of Trinity, Donna (John) Lewis of Grapeland and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Lexington Texas on Monday, November 14, 2022, at 3pm.
