Alto Simon Nauert

November 25, 1937 — August 2, 2022

Alto Simon Nauert, Sr. passed away Tuesday August 2 nd from a heart attack in Elgin, Texas.

Alto was born on Thursday November 25 th , 1937, at Brackenridge hospital in Austin, Texas.

Alto graduated from Manor High School in the spring of 1955. After graduation, he worked with his father as a plumber at the University of Texas. During this time, he met the love of his life, Rosemary Nauert, on a blind date at Dessau Hall dancing away to Elvis Presley. Alto and Rosemary were married on August 21 st , 1956 and enjoyed 58 years of marriage until her death in 2014.

Alto was a master plumber and owned his own plumbing business Nauert Maintenance and Repair for over 50 years. He was an avid fisherman and spent his spare time on lakes around Austin and travelling to the Texas coast as often as he could. He loved bartering with friends and associates, and it wouldn’t be odd to come over to the house and see a rare car or boat he was excited to repair and restore that he had traded for a few bucks or something “unique” from his garage. Alto also loved Easter at his home with family and generations of grandkids, great grandkids, and friends. It was a yearly tradition that Alto smoked his famous brisket and stayed off his lawn mower for the weeks leading up just enough to make sure the grass was high enough for an epic easter egg hunt. In his later years, Alto was keen on seeing the United States and travelled to Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, and all over the rest of the US. He never wasted a moment and cherished all the time he had and always made the most of every day.

Alto was a proud member of the Colorado Lodge No. 96 in Webberville, Texas. He was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason on May 24 th , 1966. He became an endowed member on October 7 th , 2002, and received the Golden Trowel Award on June 23 rd , 2004. He became a plural member of the Elgin Lodge No. 328 on December 16 th , 2020. He faithfully served the Craft for 56 years and treasured the men and families he met over the years through the lodge.

Our condolences and gratitude are for Janet Lockwood who spent the last 8 years with Alto travelling and sharing jokes. Janet was his partner and his love for the last 8 years of his life and we are so grateful for how she treated our beloved Alto. He wasn’t always easy to get along with, but Janet knew how to wrangle him in. We love you Janet and cannot express how much it means to us that he had someone to love who loved him equally over his last years.

Alto is survived by his daughters, Ginger Lawless and Candy Bone and their husbands, Mike Lawless and Dennis Bone; son, Alto Nauert, Jr.; Alto’s grandchildren, Chris Nauert, Brittany Lawless Morales, Ryan Lawless, Jeremy Johnson (Bone), Wayne Bone, and Ronnie Bone, and 7 great- grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the VFW Post 6115 in Elgin.
