Addison Thorn

April 25, 1941 — February 8, 2022

Addison Lyman Thorn was born in Houston, Texas on April 25, 1941, to Dr. Sylvester Wesley Thorn and Ellen Lyman Thorn. Addison went to his heavenly home on Tuesday, February 8, He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Sylvester Wesley Thorn III and his wife, Freyja. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Cherry Lind Thorn; his daughter Amy Elizabeth Thorn; his daughter Susanna Kay Fagala and husband, Jon Michael Fagala; his daughter Deborah Ann Thorn; his son William Addison Thorn and his wife, Erin Dallenbach Thorn; his three grandchildren, Blake Nathaniel Baker, Andrew Richmond Baker, and Cara Ellen Elizabeth Baker and their father, Kelly Don Baker; his sister, Margaret Wood and late husband, Clayton Wood; his sister, Virginia Thomason and husband, Robert Thomason; his sister, Carol Dold and husband, Warren Dold; his sister, Elsa Teasdale and husband, David Teasdale, DDS, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews that he loved dearly.

Addison’s father was a pioneer of the Medical Center and as a native Houstonian, Addison witnessed the growth of Houston firsthand from the heart of the city. With strong ties to Houston, he was a very kind and compassionate man who never met a stranger. He attended St. John’s and Lamar High School and both The University of Tennessee and Texas Christian University with a degree in Accounting.

Shortly after graduation, Addison felt called to the ministry and with a heart to serve the Lord, he spent three years at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and then joined Teen Challenge in New York City with David Wilkerson. He worked in the Children’s Cure Corp, The Lost Coin, and spent two years as David Wilkerson’s personal business manager. Following his tenure at Teen Challenge, Addison moved back to Houston and met his wife, Cherry, and they were married on April 7, 1973.

Upon their marriage, Addison took a job at Tenneco as a Natural Gas Liquids Senior Accountant, thus beginning a long career in the oil and gas industry. Addison was well respected in his field as he was one of the first accountants to transfer the manual accounting process to automated accounting. He continued working in the field for many years and held positions at Tenneco, Shell, Enron, and Enterprise Products Partners.

In addition to a long career in accounting, Addison continued to minister to many in several different ways. He served as an English-speaking pastor for two years at Grace Chapel Chinese American Church. After attending the opening of the Holocaust Museum in Houston, Addison and Cherry established close relationships with the Jewish Community and started Olive Leaf Ministries with a desire to help bridge relationships within the international community. He was also a member of the Houston Police and Clergy Association and was faithful to support and pray for the Houston's Police Officers and their families.

Addison’s biggest love was his family and his Lord. He was a deeply devoted husband and father to his four children and three grandchildren. Addison attended every soccer, basketball, volleyball, and football game his children played in and he was usually the loudest cheerleader in the stands. His sense of humor and good nature will be deeply missed by all of those that knew him.
