Clyde Thomas Cayton, age 88, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010.
Clyde was an only child born to Clifford Clyde Cayton and Adell Smith Cayton on April 26, 1922. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Mary Thames Cayton and grandson Chad Maness.
He is survived by his second wife, Adele Sanders Cayton; daughter Laura Carter and son-in-law Robert Carter III; daughter Marsha Cayton and son-in-law Q. John LaHam; grandson Jared Maness and granddaughter-in-law Christy Albert Maness; grandson David Doctor; great granddaughters Gracelyn Maness and Addison Maness. His 10 year marriage to Adele blessed his life with more family; stepdaughter Pam Jay; stepson Dale Briggs Sanders; grandchildren Jennifer, Jeff, Torri, Brettne, Tanner and several great- grandchildren.
Clyde grew up in Houston and attended San Jacinto High School. As a young man working in the petrochemical field, he met Mary at work and they were married on a Thanksgiving Day. After a 30-year career at Rohm and Hass, he retired to the family ranch in McDade, Texas. His greatest joy was life on the Cayton Ranch. Several years after Mary's passing, he married his second love, Adele. Just a few days ago, he celebrated his 88th birthday and their 10th anniversary. He loved the land, animals, birds and most of all his family. He will long be remembered for his strong work ethic, generosity and dedication to his family.
Memorial service officiated by Tom Nuckels will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Elgin Church of Christ, 703 N. Avenue C, Elgin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, Clyde's wishes would have been for donations to be made to Lifeline Chaplaincy, 1415 Southmore Blvd, Houston, TX, 77004, www.lifelinechaplaincy.org.
