Herbert (Herb) Allen Edmonson

d. May 25, 2010

Herbert (Herb) Allen Edmonson, age 71, passed away on May 25, 2010 after a valiant battle against cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Herb was born in Wichita Falls, Texas and after high school he proudly served his country as a United States Marine. While in the Marine Corps, he married his high school sweetheart, Lynda, and they established their first home in San Clemente, Calif.
After Herb was honorably discharged from the Marines, he and Lynda moved to Baytown, Texas and began building their family. Herb worked for Humble (Exxon) as a computer operator until he chose to pursue his dream of being a business owner.

Herb and Lynda moved their growing family to Austin, Texas where Herb owned and managed several Shell service stations. His success as a business owner allowed him the opportunity to fulfill another dream, which was to own a place in the country.

He spent many years traveling daily from Austin to McDade, Texas to care for a menagerie of animals on their future ranch while he continued to live and work in Austin. Eventually, Herb and Lynda were able to move to McDade and enjoyed their retirement years tending to the land, animals and family.

Herb was a loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Lofton and Catherine Edmonson and one brother, Dan Edmonson.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Lynda Edmonson; daughter, Cathy Edmonson from Austin; son, Herb Edmonson Jr. and wife Mary from Austin; son, Steve Edmonson from Ohio; son, Russell Edmonson from San Antonio; daughter, Sharon Roe and husband Mike from Elgin; daughter Elaine Edmonson-Lopez from San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; 12 nieces and nephews; brother Tom Edmonson and wife Billie; sister, Rosemary Whitehead and husband David; his Cedar Valley Baptist Church family and many lifelong friends.
