John Edward Rose

John Edward Rose age 92 of Elgin passed away Tuesday March 7, 2017, at his home. He was born August 20, 1924 in Taylor Hospital.  Born the only child to Sigfred Rose (from Sweden) and Ernestine Zimmerli Rose (from Switzerland).  He was baptized at New Sweden Lutheran Church and confirmed at St Peters Lutheran Church in Elgin and is a member of the First United Methodist Church in Elgin.

Johnny graduated from Elgin High in 1942 then went to work at Brown Shipyard in Houston, after he returned to Elgin he opened a welding business.

He married Joan Ellis in January 1948 and they were married for 69 years. To this union three children were born Fred, Rick, and Sue.

In 1961 Johnny went to work for the University of Texas Printing Division.  He retired in 1986 and in his 31 years of retirement he traveled, fished, shot trap, metal detected and was always busy.

Johnny belonged to the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department for several years.  He was a member of Capitol Skeet & Trap Club and Austin Metal Detecting Club.  He also enjoyed the Downtown Coffee Club in Elgin.

Surviving Johnny is wife Joan, children Fred Rose and Doris Bell, Rick and wife Sharon, Suzanne and husband Rick Salter.  Grandchildren Dan Rose, Julie Neideffer and husband Matt, Ryan Rose and wife Kim, Justin and wife Taylor, Lindsay and husband Jack LeClerc.

Great grandchildren Lily, Isaac, Sam, Luke and Alice Neideffer, Emma and Jase Rose, Jaxson and Carter LeClerc.  Brother-in-law and sister-In-law Don and Pat Sanders and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are Justin Salter, Ryan Rose, Dan Rose, Allen Doubrava, Jay Harkins and Jimmie Lee Christensen.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be given to A-Med Hospice in Austin or First United Methodist Church of Elgin.

A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, March 9, 2017, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Johnny’s Life will be held 10:00 AM Friday, March 10 ^th , Providence-Jones Family Funeral Chapel. He will be laid to rest in the Elgin Cemetery.
