Karl Adolph Engeling

Karl Adolph Engeling, 79, of Elgin passed away peacefully on February 15, 2017, surrounded by his family.

Karl was born on July 18, 1937 in Elgin, Texas to Olga Blum Engeling and Rev. Herman Carl Engeling.  He was baptized on August 19, 1937 and confirmed on November 18, 1951 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elgin by his father.   He graduated from Elgin High School in 1955 and attended Texas Lutheran College.  On December 28, 1958 Karl married Nathalie Maureen Schmidt at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Karl was a lifelong devoted member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Elgin, where he served in various capacities and held numerous positions.  He served as a Little League coach and a Boy Scout leader when his children were younger.  Pop loved watching his children and grandchildren participate in all of their activities and was a devoted and supportive fan.  He shared his love for God and God’s creation with his family. He loved setting limb lines and hanging out on sand and gravel bars in the Colorado River. He enjoyed simple pleasures and a simple life.  Of his many accolades, perhaps the most endearing and fitting to him was, “He is a good man and a faithful friend".

Karl worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety for 33 years until his retirement in 1991.  After retirement from DPS he continued to operate Karl A. Engeling Insurance Agency.  He served on the board of directors of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Association for 15 years.

He is survived by his wife Nathalie; his children Russell and Brenda Engeling of Brenham, Todd and Candace Engeling of San Marcos, Jeff and Carol Engeling of Austin and Tammy and Mike Tovar of Pflugerville; his grandchildren Ryan Engeling, Kyle Engeling and fiancé Faith Buls, Addie and Logan Smith, Hayden Engeling, Jacob Engeling, Wesley Engeling and Kalie Tovar; brother, Glenn and Leisa Engeling.

He is preceded in death by his parents his sisters Mary Ann Morrison and Hermine Stoll.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin.  A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 10:00 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 401 E 8 th St., Elgin.  Burial will follow in Elgin Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Ryan Engeling, Kyle Engeling, Logan Smith, Hayden Engeling, Jacob Engeling and Wesley Engeling.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the charity of one’s choice.
