John Jeffery (Big John) Yount, 67, of Elgin, passed away on May 22, 2016 with family and friends around him.
He was born January 15, 1949 to Woodrow Wilson and Lenora (Jackson) Yount. John was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. On August 6, 1976 he married the love of his life Ginger Gayle Battles. After working for Butterkurst Bakery he went to work for the University of Texas in 1972. He retired in 2001 after 27 years of service. John started driving school buses for Durham Transportation in Pflugerville, TX. in 2001 till 2003, when he started his fight with diabetes and kidney failure. John attended Trinity Tabernacle in Cedar Park, TX, Creedmoor Union Church in Creedmoor, TX, and Hornsby Bend Assemble of God Church in Elgin, TX.
John is preceded in death by both his parents and his great-nephew Colton Pelfrey.
He is survived by his wife, Ginger, of 40 years. His son Cliffton Battles and wife Brandi, and two Daughters; Jennifer Thurman and husband Bill, and Theresa Hernandez and husband Jimmy all of Elgin, TX. His grandchildren; Chelsea Thurman, Jacob Hernandez, and Zac Thurman, three Step-Grandchildren Keith Thurman, Martina Thurman and Caleb Hernandez. He is also survived by his siblings, Betty Cunningham and husband Paul of Burnet, TX., Donald Yount of Beaumont, TX., and two Brother-in-Laws; John Battles and wife Diane of Bertram, TX., and Martin Battles, as well as numerous Aunts, Nieces, Nephews and Family and Friends.
A visitation will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 26, 2016 Lost Pines Cowboy Church. Celebration of Life Services will beginning at 4:00 PM
