Jose Diaz

Jose Antonio (Tony) Diaz passed away on February 19, 2016 after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born December 14, 1946 in Monterrey, Mexico to Felipe Diaz Garcia and Angelica Gonzalez Diaz. His family immigrated to the United States when he was nine years old. He attended schools in Los Angeles and Houston. After school Tony enlisted in the Air Force and served during the Vietnam era. Tony had a career as a long distance truck driver hauling a variety of cargo. He also had another career as chief hunting guide and manager of La Perla Ranch in San Ignacio, Texas for many years.

Tony was a friendly man who loved people and had many friends all over the United States. An avid outdoor sports man, Tony’s hobbies were hunting and fishing. He also had a special love for all animal, especially horses and rodeo. When he was younger he participated in rodeos in both Texas and Mexico. Tony enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and collected his memorabilia. He liked reading the western novels of Louis L’Amour and Zane Gray.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Nina Shelby; his three sister, Angelica (Salvador) Alfaro of Arlington, Texas, Margaret Diaz of Weslaco, Texas, and Cristina Diaz of McAllen, Texas. He is also survived by his four children; Denis Diaz of San Diego, California, David (Tausha) Diaz of Elgin, Texas, Rebecca Diaz-Flores (Jose) of Red Oak, Texas, and Stoney (Marisa) Shelby of Georgetown, Texas and 4 grandchildren.

A viewing will be held 11:00 AM-5:00 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2016, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 Wednesday, February 24, 2016, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, February 25, 2016, Greenwood Community Cemetery, Weatherford, Tx.
