Patsy Jo Doty

April 20, 1932 — August 1, 2015

Patsy Jo Hughes Doty died on August 1, 2015 at the age of 83 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Patsy Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Jo and Ila Hughes, her husband, Kirk Doty and two of her children, Richard Bentley Dayton and Gloria Danille Redden.

She is survived by three of her children, Wendy Presley (husband Skip), Deward Wilkins (wife Lisa) and Charlotte Byrd (husband David), sister Gloria Clark (husband Donald) and brother Howard Hughes (wife Becky), grandchildren Juliet, Cassie, Chasity, Jason, Nicole, Bentley, Jeremy, Jack and Austin, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and numerous beloved cousins.

Shortly after her birth in Thrall, Texas, Patsy Jo moved with her family to Old Spanish Trail Acres outside of Houston. It was in Houston where she graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. Patsy Jo went on to start a family through which her greatest passion developed, being a mother. Motherhood would be incomplete without her devotion to her faith in Jesus.

The events of her life aligned in such a way that compelled her quest for knowledge through her love of books and eventually on one of her greatest accomplishments, graduation from The University of Texas at the age of 60. Much of her life was intertwined with her love of art and travel, but it was genealogy and Texas History that she loved to talk about. Patsy Jo enjoyed time being involved with The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, specifically her service as Custodian General.

Patsy Jo Hughes will be remembered for always having an open door and open arms and embracing the uniqueness in the world. If there was a small child nearby, she was close by waiting to share their wonder. And oh how we will miss her beautiful-bright smile!

A visitation and service will be held at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 Hwy 95 North, Elgin, Texas 6:00-8:00pm on Friday, August 7th. A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, August 8th at Burns Cemetery in Blue, Texas.
