Irene Jeanette Blisard

August 14, 1928 — July 25, 2015

Irene Jeanette Blisard, long-time resident of Elgin, Texas, went to be with her heavenly father on July 25, 2015, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas.

Irene was born on August 14, 1928, in the New Elm Community of Red Rock, Caldwell County, Texas, to Ervin and Kate Buckner. She was the youngest of 14 children.

Irene was a sensitive, loving woman and her greatest happiness came in seeing those around her happy. She spent most of her adult years as a homemaker in addition to helping her husband run a dairy. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Elgin, and for many years served as the nursery director. She later handled the church’s card ministry for homebound members. She was especially gifted in working with children and cared for her grandchildren while their parents worked.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Glen Blisard, daughter Pattie Russell, daughter Joyce Lane (James), daughter Sharon Gwinn (Jimmy), son Danny Blisard (Janice), 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings Juanita Hodge, Ferrell Roberts, Ovella Tumlinson, and Jack Buckner. She was preceded in death by her parents, 9 siblings, and one son-in-law.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at the Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home Chapel in Elgin, Texas. A visitation service will be held at the Chapel Tuesday, July 28, 2015, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Baptist Church, Elgin.

The family wishes to thank Scott & White Hospital and their Hospice Division for the loving care and comfort they provided.
