Helen Whitten, 86, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in Elgin, Texas. Helen was born Helen Marie Burke on October 23, 1928, to Woody and Katie Marie Burke in Elgin, Texas.
Helen attended school and graduated from Elgin High School. While in Elgin Helen met and married Oliver Whitten, also from Elgin. The couple moved to Brazoria in 1951, where Helen and Oliver would raise a family of three boys; David, Randy, and Glen. Throughout her 31 years in Brazoria, Helen was an active member of the First Baptist Church, serving as a role model to her family and friends, a true Christian. She was also active in the school system, supporting her three boys in whatever the requirements would be. She was secretary to the PTA, a Cub Scouts den mother, along with her best friend of 65 years, Joe Taylor. Helen was loved by everyone, especially her three sons, who loved her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband and both her parents.
Helen is survived by her three sons, David, 65, of Elgin and longtime Daughter-In-Law Darice Whitten, Randy, 64, wife Patty Whitten of Lake Jackson, and Glen, 54, of San Antonio and longtime Daughter-In-Law Cheryl Whitten of San Antonio. Helen is also survived by one brother, Harry Burke and wife Francis of Houston, 10 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday, June 28, 2015 Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, Elgin, Texas. Celebration of Life Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 29, 2015 First Baptist Church Elgin.
