Ora Denise Baker
Denise (D-Bird) passed away June 3rd, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. She was diagnosed in 2009 and declared terminal in 2010. It is not unusual for Denise to beat the odds as she was hit by a car in July 1974 and the doctors told us we needed to “let her go”. As a family we decided to ignore that advice and instead, bring Denise home. It was 40 years we weren’t supposed to have and she has been the light of our lives ever since.
Denise was born February 11th, 1952 to Earl and Dot Baker. She was the 2nd of 4 of “The Baker girls” and a real spit fire. Denise never let any of the events that shaped her life get her down; she made the best of everything and kept all of us on our toes. You will never find anyone that could make a pot holder like she did. Due to her head injury she had her own language that few could understand, but it all made sense to us once we figured it out. She was a special person and will be dearly missed by all. There will never be another D-Bird.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dot Baker, Sister Becky Lea Bostic, nephews Anthony and Bryan Koi.
She is survived by Sisters Cynthia Townsend and husband Joe, Yvonne Koi and husband Miki, brother-in-law Russell Bostic and many nieces and nephews.
We also want to thank the many friends and extended family that continued to visit Denise through the years.
The family would like to thank Dr. Knowles, Asera Care Hospice and Silver Pines Nursing Home. A special loving thanks goes out to her niece Niki Koi White and her family, Carter, Peyton and Parker for caring for Denise the last 3 ½ years.
Services will be held Saturday, June 6th at 10am at Providence Jones Funeral Home in Elgin, Texas.
The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The American Cancer Society in Denise’s name
