James Hughes

James Lewis Hughes born was December 1, 1925 to Grace (Fisher) and James C. Hughes in Thrall, Texas. He passed away May 21, 2015 at home in Elgin, Texas.

James attended Elgin High School and left to join the U. S. Navy in November of 1943. After returning from the war, he joined Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 286 and became a journeyman plumber. He was a member for 66 years. He also was a life member to Elgin VFW Post 6115, and a member of Henry A Lundgren American Legion Hall #295. James received his high school diploma with the 2003 Elgin High School graduating class.

He married Ruby Lee Northcutt December 14, 1945 while on leave from the service. They were married almost 62 years before her death in 2007. Together they had two children, Kenneth Ray and Bonnie Joe (Sims). He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby, his son Kenneth, brother Joie, three grandchildren James Willis, Shannon Leon, and Sandra Kay.

He is survived by his daughter Bonnie (Doni) Sims, daughter-in-law Lisa Hughes, and sister Arlene Parks. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Lee Lannen (Nicole), Dana Hinson (Bret), and Bryan Hughes and 10 great grandchildren,3 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Elgin VFW Post 6115.

Family wishes to thank Dr. Biel and his staff at Elgin Medical Center, Dr. Helmer and Staff at Texas Oncology and Asera Care Hospice- Bastrop for the gentle care given to our loved one.

A Celebration of James’ Life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July 5, 2015, at the Elgin VFW.
