Amiel Joe Johnson Sr., 79, of Lexington passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015.
Joe was born on November 8, 1935 in Blue, Texas to Willie Burel and Minnie Pearl Stifflemire Johnson. He attended Lexington High School. Joe was baptized at University Church of Christ in Austin. He later married Mildred Rogers on February 4, 1955 at the Church of Christ in Elgin. Joe then joined the Army and proudly served in the Korean War. He also worked for the City of Austin and was later self-employed in the air conditioning business. Joe was an avid hunter and fisherman. Joe and Millie were long time members of Adina Christian Church.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his three sisters, Billie Jones, Mae Brown and Mary Alice Bittle, brother-in-laws, Cecil Damon Rogers and Bill Baker and sister-in-law, Alma Ruth Bostic.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Millie, two sons, Joey and Debbie, and Guy, six grandchildren, Nathan and Lyndsey Johnson, Sara and Brandon Suttles, Michael and Celinda Johnson, Travis Johnson, Tanya and Scott Weddle, and Amanda Johnson, three great-grandchildren, Kaidyn, Bailey and Kamryn Johnson, brother-in-law, Buster Bostic, brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Lola Cole and sister-in-law, Edna Baker.
A memorial service celebrating Joe’s life will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 2:00 at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Funeral Home.
