Willie Mae Mckinney

April 13, 1919 — March 7, 2015

Willie Mae Faught McKinney passed peacefully at home after a lengthy stay in four different hospitals with her family at her side. She was the eldest daughter and sole survivor of seven children from the union of Jesse Clarence Faught and Minnie Luvina Cook of San Saba, Texas. Willie Mae was born in Lampasas County near Lometa.

Willie Mae was a gifted seamstress, dressmaker and designer creating original dresses and costumes for her two daughters. She was employed by the Bridal Dept., Rhoades Dept. Store in San Antonio before moving to Austin, Texas to work as Service Dispatcher for Flash Refrigeration, Inc. She retired in 1982 and took up quilting. She was a member of the Elgin First Baptist Church where she was known for her chicken and dumplings that she prepared for the senior luncheons. She was a charter member of Peace by Piece Quilt Club and loved making quilt blocks. She was also a member of the Austin and Bastrop quilt guilds.

Willie Mae was quite social; she took ballroom dancing from Arthur Murrey Studios where she met James Franklin and fell in love. She formerly belonged to the Red Hat Society, Elgin Evening Lions and was a Charter Member of the Elgin Noon Club. She pieced a king size quilt and donated it to the newly chartered club to support the club’s first fundraiser to help provide funds for the Elgin Police Dept. purchase of “Fiona” the narcotics dog. She attended many Lions International Club functions at the District, Regional and State level with Shirley and Flash

Willie Mae loved to deer hunt and her greatest pleasure was killing an 11 point buck at age 93 with one shot. She loved to sit in the deer blind where her grandson Mark had set up a feeder. She loved to play checkers with her grandchildren and she was an expert. You only won when she wanted you to win. She was like that with straight dominos, 42 and 84 and in her younger days she was tough to beat. She had her own IPad and she loved to play Sudoku, and would play for hours. She was sharp as a tack until the end. She will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her three sons: Jimmie Joe McKinney of Leander; USMC Sgt. Kenneth Gerald McKinney, Ret., of McDade and Lynn Carlton McKinney of Elgin; her parents; her brothers Jesse Elzie Faught; James Allen Faught of Burnet Texas and Lynn Faught of San Saba, Texas; her sisters Bessie Hale of San Saba; Ruby Rolan of Lometa and Juanita Ressman of Yorktown, Texas and her son-in-law Fabian (Flash) Moczygemba of Elgin. She outlived three husbands – George McKinney (father of her five children); Floyce Bob Fox and James Franklin McKinney.

She is survived by her two daughters Shirley McKinney Moczygemba of Elgin and Patricia McKinney McCall of Spicewood; one granddaughter Pam McCall, six grandsons: Mark Moczygemba and wife Cherie of Pleasanton and Brian Moczygemba and wife Kim Of Elgin; Scott and Larry McCall of Spicewood and Kenny McKinney and wife Ann of Rockport; Chris McKinney and his wife Jackie of McDade. She has eight great grandchildren and twelve great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by one sister-in-law, Betty Faught of San Saba and two step-sisters Rosalie and Dixie Wilson.
