William Garret Sumner

September 14, 1998 — February 28, 2015

William Garret Sumner age 16 of Elgin passed away peacefully Saturday, February 28, 2015, surrounded by his family.

Garret was born on September 14, 1998 to William Edward Sumner and Angela Marie (Garcia) Sumner. From a young age he loved all sports; soccer, baseball, football, and basketball. He especially enjoyed riding horses with his Dad, Uncle R.J and Cousin Dontae. Garrett was a loving and smart young man. He was always willing to help or teach any of the kids at practice. Garret was always the first in line to eat no matter where he was or how big of a crowd there was. He loved all the big family get-togethers. He also loved going to all the volleyball games to support his friends-(because it was GIRLS Volleyball). Garret loved sweet tea, animal crackers and his Grandma Barbara’s mashed potatoes. He never minded going to Grandma Pam’s to mow the lawn. This past year he had started to learn to shoe horses with John Toledo, an activity that he enjoyed very much. But most of all, Garrett loved to watch sports and rodeos with his Dad.

Garrett had two best friends since elementary school; Matthew and Kendra. With Kendra it started off a little rough but they grew to be great friends.

Garret was preceded in death by his Great Grandpa Garcia, Grandma and Grandpa Law, Grandma and Grandpa Kaase, Grandma and Grandpa Sumner, Aunt Kathy Parker, Aunt Melba Garcia, Uncle Eddie Kaase and Uncle Teo Garcia.

He is survived by his parents, his two little sisters Bailey Marie and Emily Marie Sumner, Grandparents: Pamela Garcia, Pedro Garcia, Barbara and Dominic Polasek, C.D Sumner and Great Grandma Garcia, and a special Uncle R.J. Jansky. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins along with his baseball and football team, roping buddies, coaches and teachers, Wednesday night youth group-church family, and SPJST youth group.

Serving as pallbearers will be Matthew Rodriguez, Larry Rodriguez, R.J. Jansky, Rob Beckett, Dontae McClendon, Kyle Pruitt, Cayden Pipkin, and Travis Martinez.

Garret’s family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, March 5, 2015, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be held 1:00 PM Friday March 6, 2015 at the Family Worship Center. He will be laid to rest in the Type Cemetery.
