Ruthie Inez Carter Wilhite, age 98, of Elgin went to her Heavenly Home Monday, January 5, 2015.
Ruth was born June 20, 1916 to James and Lea Ann (Ivy) Shaver in Whitney, Texas. She met Daddy when she was ten years old and married him at the old age of 14. To their union 8 children were born.
Ruthie loved people. She was the wife of a pastor and considered it an honor. Ruthie spent her life doing for others. But her greatest love was the Lord. Going to the house of the Lord was most important to her. Ruthie had more faith than anyone I have ever known. If she was sick or in pain she trusted prayer more than medicine. She responded to prayer like most people respond to medicine. If Ruthie had a need she took it to the Lord and trusted him to take care of it, and He did.
She called all of our names in prayer. Sometimes she would ask us about certain family members and say “Oh I have had them on my mind and have been praying for them”; We would find out later they had needed that prayer.
The year of her 80th birthday she went to Israel, and even rode a camel. She loved animals and working in her yard.
We will miss mother’s prayers. We will miss mother but we are so grateful the Lord has taken her home to be with Him.
Mother, You have fought a good fight. You have finished you course. You have kept the Faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Rev. E.L. “Bub” Carter; and son, Gilbert Lamar Carter.
She is survived by sons Kenneth Wade Carter of Arlington, Lawrence Zane Carter and wife Peggy of Mansfield, Leslie Dale Carter and wife, Kim of Elgin, and Ricky Don Carter and wife of Austin; daughters Gracie Ruth Shue and husband Darwin of Ennis, Nelda Joy Dodd and Husband Bobby of Elgin, and Myra Jane Preston and husband Marion of Elgin; 32 Grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, January 8, 2015, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. A Celebration of Ruthie’s Life will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, January 9, 2015, Val Verde Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Val Verde Cemetery.
A local memorial service will be held at the Family Worship Center at a later date
