Doyle (Pete) Ray Turnipseed

August 6, 1928 — November 16, 2014

Doyle (Pete) Turnipseed, 86, of McDade passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014. He was the 9th of 11 children born on August 6, 1928 to Alvin Lee Turnipseed and Viola (Mobley).

He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He was in the 52nd field artillery and was honorably discharged as a corporal. His initial training was in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas before being stationed in Korea and Japan.

Pete was a peanut farmer and rancher and did custom hay baling and peanut thrashing. He also worked fulltime at Elgin Butler Brick until his retirement in 1993. After retirement he continued his love of ranching while working part-time for the brickyard.Pete married Elvira Stiewert in 1954 and they were married for 43 years.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife Elvira, parents, and siblings; Elmer Turnipseed, Frances Jackson, Leona Daughtry, Harold Turnipseed, Phillip Lee Turnipseed, Howard Turnipseed, Winnie Barnett, Rhoda Lois Turnipseed.

He is survived by his wife Maxine, sons; Dale (Debra) Turnipseed, Jerry (Claudia) Turnipseed, Ray (Carola) Turnipseed and stepchildren; James (Nancy) Wagner, Rachal (Danny) Ganson, Benita Sorenson, Robert (Dorenne) Vest, Marie (John) Hopkins, Jerry (Faye) Vest. Grandchildren; Ryan, Katy, Joshua, Jason, Amanda, Sonia, Cody, Amber and 16 step grandchildren. Great grandchildren; McKenna, Madasyn and 31 step great-grandchildren. Sisters; Dorothy Edwards, Mary Sherman.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin, Tx. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, November 20, 2014, Knobbs Springs Baptist Church, McDade Texas. Interment to follow in the McDade Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Faith Lutheran Church in McDade, TX, Knobbs Springs Baptist Church in McDade, TX or the Alzheimer’s Association.
