Katherine Doris (Kastner) Wolf, age 91, of McDade passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at St David’s Hospital in Austin Texas.
Katherine was born March 15, 1923 in Elgin, Texas, to Martin and Henrietta (Leismann) Kastner. She attended Ramsey school and graduated from Elgin High School Class of 1941. Katherine attended Seton School of Nursing in Austin, Texas and graduated on April 26. 1945. She later worked at Fleming Memorial Hospital, Elgin, Texas, as a surgical and O.B. nurse with Dr. Joe Fleming. She married Theodore Martin Wolf on March 10, 1951, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Elgin Texas. Katherine and Martin lived their entire married life in McDade, Texas, and were active members of Faith Lutheran Church, McDade, Texas. In later years, she was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church, McDade, Texas.
She had a love for: gardening, canning, word search puzzles, feeding hummingbirds, dominos, (especially with sister, Frances, brother, Charles and her sons.) Katherine enjoyed cooking, baking bread, Texas Rangers baseball, playing Bunco and Skip-Bo (with her McDade and Elgin friends) and caring for her children and grandchildren. In her early years she enjoyed crocheting, sewing and embroidery. She especially loved gardening and had a garden each season well into her upper eighties and was notorious for her canned pickles.
Katherine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers Joe Lee Kastner and Junior Kastner; daughter-in-law Jeannie Wolf.
She is survived by a sister, Lillian Frances Monson and a brother, Charles Kastner; sister-in-laws Katie Mogonye and Evelyn Wolf; children, Steve (Laurey), Marshall, Andy (Roxanne) and Chris Wolf (Kim), Martha Schanhals (Bruce), Faye Ray and Delores Moore (Jeffrey) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She loved her grandchildren: Lee, Matthew and Melanie Wolf, Amanda Schramm, Blake, Lauren and Sarah Schanhals, Lindsey, Connor, Vance and Samantha Ray, Ryan, Randall and Megan Moore, Kurt and Brandon Wolf and Katie Holdbrook and also her great grandchildren Aubrey Holdbrook and Charles Wolf. In her honor, her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
“We will miss her wonderful smile, her candid sense of humor, acute memory of dates and life events, love and joy of gathering with her family and friends and faithfulness to her Lord.”
A special acknowledgement by the family goes to the staff at Elgin Rehab and Nursing Center for their loving care shown to Katherine during her stay.
A visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, October 16, 2014, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Celebration of Katherine’s Life will be held 2:00pm Friday October 17, 2014, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest in the Siloah Cemetery, McDade.
In Lieu of Flowers, memorials can be made to New Hope Lutheran Church, McDade, TX.
