Johnny L. Michalek, age 88, of Granger passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014 in Granger.
Johnny was born May 31, 1925 to Frank Michalek Sr. and Marie Kurtin.
He was a farmer for many years. After farming he worked for Edwin Repa, building homes and owned a tavern he called Michalek’s Bar. He also owned and operated Michalek’s Package Store with his wife Vlasta.
He was a parishioner of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church where he served with the Knights of Columbus. Johnny enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking barbecue, gardening, and playing dominoes and Taroks; most of all, he loved to dance.
He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, his Wife Vlasta, Stepdaughter Jeanette Carfer, and siblings: Mary Knapek, Frank Michalek Jr., Hattie Klepac, Frances Klepac, Anton Michalek, and Joe Michalek.
Survivors include Stepson, Harvey Nemec and wife Donna, sisters: Agnes Stojanik, Georgia Mikulencak and Evelyn Demirsu, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held 6:30PM Tuesday, May 13, 2014, Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger. Celebration of Mass will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 14, 2014, Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger.
