Carl Newman Ray, age 77 was called to Heaven to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, while walking in his garden, planting his watermelon patch. Carl was born December 3, 1936, the fourth child of Ruby Ella Solomon Ray and Joe T. Ray; in Bastrop County, Texas. He grew up a country boy, known as “Bud” by his family and friends. His siblings were J.W. Ray, Joy LaVerne Ray Eckert, Doris LaVeda Ray Anderson Feldpausch, and Mary Catherine Ray Daniel Parker. He attended the Manor schools graduating high school with the Class of 1955.
Carl served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1961 he was deployed to West Germany during that time. Carl married Alice Elizabeth Pirkle on May 25, 1963 in Gonzales, Texas. He worked at the ALCOA Rockdale Plant for many years. He then worked for Austin Hydro Gas Co. delivering propane fuel, and for Cen-Tex Propane Co. in the Elgin and surrounding area for many years. Carl also ran a small farm/ranch operation at his home near Webberville, Texas for 50 years. Carl is a member of Cedar Valley Baptist Church.
Carl was a loving husband, Daddy, Grand Dad, Son, Brother, Uncle, and Friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Alice Elizabeth; three children Carl Patrick, Erin Newman, and Elizabeth Robin; his children-in-law Vickie Ray, Tabitha McFall-Ray, and Joshua Whitwell; twelve Grandchildren; Seven Great-Grandchildren; and a large number of nephews and nieces.
Funeral arrangements by Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, Elgin, Texas. Visitation will be Monday, April 21, 2014 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, April 22, 2014 2:00 pm at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Young’s Prairie Cemetery. Refreshments will be available at Cedar Valley Baptist Church following Interment.
