Jim Victor Mogonye was born on August 8, 1922 to Jim and Albina Novosad Mogonye of Elgin, Texas. He peacefully departed on April 15, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Emil Mogonye.
Jim V. was very devoted to and loved his wife Katherine Wolf of McDade for 65 years. They were blessed with three children, Mike, Paul, and Amy who in turn blessed them with eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was a lifelong resident of Elgin, Texas and member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He served as a proud member of the United States Marine Corp during WWII. He also served on the board of Bastrop County Soil & Water Conservation District for 55 years. He was instrumental in the building of the SPJST Lodge #18 and was a lifetime member. He was a pillar in Elgin and enjoyed serving his community through various organizations such as the Lion’s Club, Elgin Chamber of Commerce, RVOS, St. Peter’s Men in Mission, American Legion, and the infamous coffee club . He was a farmer and rancher, business owner of Mogonye Brothers Lumber Co. and former Bastrop County Commissioner. He never slowed down and was active up until his last day with us.
He loved polka dancing, deer hunting, playing dominoes, eating kolaches, traveling, and spending time with family and friends always making them laugh.
He never met a stranger and always greeted you with a firm handshake and a big hug. He will be missed for his leadership, kind heart, and fun, loving character.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin, Tx. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at 11:00 am followed by a reception at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Elgin, Tx. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
