George Ray Smith

George Ray Smith of Cedar Creek, passed away March 11, 2014 at the age of 58 , after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born in Bastrop, Texas; December 8, 1955, son of the late Booker T. and Vera M. Smith. George grew up in Bastrop, Texas; graduate of Bastrop High School class of 1975. He was of the Baptist Faith and George knew God, which showed in how he cared for others.

George is survived by his wife Veronica Kay Smith, his children: Ommaney Ray Smith, Steven Allen Smith; his step-children; Harvey Carter and Jared Carter; his grandchildren; Kenedy, Keton and Kayson.  Two brothers; James Edward Smith of Austin, Booker T. Smith, Jr. (Sandra) of Bastrop, Five sisters; Victoria Smith, Patricia A. Smith, Margie Hargrove (Larry) of Austin, Mary Lou Johns, Bessie Everhart (Dereck) of Bastrop; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends 6:00- 8:00 Friday, March 14, 2014, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home-Elgin. A celebration of George’s Life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, March 15, 2014, Providence-Jones Family Chapel-Elgin. George will be laid to rest in the Clearview Cemetery, near Bastrop.
