Lois Lorraine Maas-Gerlach

Lois Maas-Gerlach of Elgin peacefully passed away on March 8, 1014 after a brief illness.

Born April 5, 1920 in Buffalo, New York, Lois came to Elgin in 2006 after living several years in Plant City Florida. She will always be remembered for her warm, gracious smile that was comforting to all and her unselfish nature. A former bookkeeper, and Girl Scout leader, Lois loved music, the outdoors and was an avid golfer, bowler and bridge player. She was also generous to many animal protection organizations.

She was predeceased by her husband Robert Maas, and later husband Howard Gerlach. Also, a guardian daughter Melanie Horton Hubbard.

Mrs. Maas-Gerlach is survived by a son, Robert (Rena) Maas of Elgin and two daughters, Lora (Tim) Oyler of Bucktooth, New York and Suzanne Sears of Tampa, Florida. Also surviving are guardian children she raised, Dr. Sidney (Angie) Horton, of Salamanca, N.Y, Helen (Gerard) Stokes of Ellicottville, N.Y. and Diane (Reggie Smith) Cruzen of Fayettville, N.C. She was grandmother to 8, great grandmother to 6, and had several nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be sent to any animal care or protection organization of the donor’s choice.

A memorial celebration of her life will take place in Western New York in the Spring.
