Martin Janz

Martin Janz 87, died Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at his home in Elgin, Texas surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 18, 1926 to Elizabeth and Leander Janz in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma.
Martin Joined the Navy October 28, 1944 and was a ship fitter third class on the USS Chloris for three years. Upon departing the Navy he returned to his father’s farm outside of Cowden where he would return to high school. While attending Cowden High he would meet and then later marry his high school sweetheart Edith Ellen Lunsford. They were married in Wheeler, Texas September 11, 1948.
Martin and Ellen would live in Oklahoma City for two years, they then moved to Wichita, Kansas where he worked for Beech Aircraft. After attending barber college he opened Martin’s Barber Shop where he would barber for over 20 years.
Later, he worked for 20 years with National Trailer Convoy moving manufactured housing; he was awarded a safe driving award for driving a million miles without an accident. They moved to Elgin, Texas and opened E & M Furniture; he retired in 2007 when the store closed.
Martin took pride in his work, but also loved the outdoors, golfing, hunting, and his favorite past time fishing, and boating. He also enjoyed watching his favorite sport teams; the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Texas Longhorns, and the Atlanta Braves.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth and Leander Janz; brothers Bobby, Lewie, and Cecil Janz; sister-in-law Johnnie Sue Jones; niece Montie Sue Scott; and nephew Chris Scott.
He is survived by his loving wife Ellen Janz; daughters Trinea Moreno and husband William, and Patricia Janz. As well as his six grandchildren Allena Mitchell and husband Malik of Alabama, Jeremy Clifford and wife Jennifer of Elgin, Anthony Sprague of Florida, Carlene Ogren and husband R.J. of California, Erica Moreno of California, and Andrew Moreno of Austin; 6 great-grandchildren Jager, Trevor, Tristin, Zoe, Ryleigh, and Jaden; sister Elda Vorpagal, and younger brother Raymond Janz; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A Celebration of Martin’s life will be held 11:00 A.M- 5:00 PM Saturday, March 29, 2014 at their home on Young’s Prairie Road.
