Glenward “Glen” Matetzschk
Beloved husband and father, Glenward Matetzschk passed away in Austin, Texas on December 12, 2013. He was born to Ernest & Ella Matetzschk in Coupland, Texas on October 31, 1933. On March 6, 1954, he married the love of his life, Shirlene Peterson, and they have been married for 59 years.
Glen was a loving devoted father who inspired our children to be the kind, respectful and loving adults they are today. He put everything he had into his children and instilled discipline, hard-work, ambition and integrity into their lives. His six children, 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren are his legacy. They will remember him as they take those gifts and use them to make the world a better place. His children are Dianna Laubenberg and her husband William of Katy, Texas; Glenn Allen Matetzschk and his wife Renee of Sugar Land, Texas; Sheryl Burgess and her husband Paul of Lyndonville, New York; Melinda Mican and her husband Richard of Rosenberg, Texas; Melissa Treesh and her husband Erik of Gillette, Wyoming; and Melanie Burgess and her husband Patrick of Brenham, Texas. His grandchildren are Amy Laubenberg, Mary Laubenberg and her fiancé Dan McRae, Wendy Laubenberg, Matthew Matetzschk, Rachel Matetzschk and her fiancé Luke Leonard, and great grandson, Nathaniel, Ryan Burgess, Rayne Everage and her husband Chance, Ross Burgess and his wife Danielle, Rebeka Burgess, Rhiannon Burgess, Richard Mican, Dalton Mican, Timothy Mican, Brandon Treesh, Addison Treesh, Cassidy Treesh, Clarissa Burgess and great-granddaughter Aubrey, Alyssa Burgess, and Jacob Burgess.
Glen will be greatly missed by his aunt, Esther Schmidt; brothers and sisters, Lawrence Matetzschk and his wife Marjorie, along with their daughters; Judy Campbell and husband Frank, Joan Miller and her daughter Elizabeth. Arthur Matetzschk and his children, Stacey Allen Matetzschk, Terri Black and her husband Charlie, and Robert Glen Shelby and his wife Kendra, and daughter Allison. Elaine Farris and husband Clyde, and their children Earl Farris and Kimberly Farris-Calhoun and her husband John, their children Jordan Calhoun and his wife Cyndi, Braeden Calhoun and Clayton Calhoun, Fay Jordan and her son, Trampas Jordan and his wife Julie, and their children, Jake, Russell, Trampas Jr. and Jaylee; along with his niece Rebekah Kerr-Turner and her husband Roy, and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Jeanette Peterson; along with numerous cousins.
Glen was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest & Ella Matetzschk, sister, Pearl Kerr, grandson, Shawn Burgess and niece, Jan Mogonye.
Glen retired from Southwestern Bell after 39 years of service. After retirement he did what he always dreamed of doing, he began ranching and farming.
He served as Treasurer and head of the Evangelism Committee for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rosenberg, Texas for many years. After moving to Elgin, Texas he served as Treasurer for the Elgin S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #18.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at 11 am at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Richland Community, 17701 Cameron Rd. Pflugerville, Texas with interment at the church’s cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Providence-Jones Funeral Home in Elgin, Texas from 6pm to 8 pm.
