Alfred William Marek

May 17, 1918 — March 29, 2013

Alfred W. Marek age 94 of Elgin passed away Friday, March 28, 2013.

He was born May 17, 1918 in Elgin, Texas .

Those who preceded him in death include his parents William and Alvina Marek, sisters Olga Spirelhaves and Leona Haisler.

He volunteered for the Army in 1940 and was wounded in France in 1944. After spending months in the army hospitals, he was discharged in 1945.

Alfred was a life time member of the VFW Post # 6115 in Elgin and volunteered countless hours helping tend the bar, bingo and poppy sales.

He is survived by nephews, Jim Haisler and wife Dolores, Bob Haisler and wife Liz, a niece Judy Smith and husband David, A dear Friend, Diane Digman as well as a host of other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held 6:00 PM, Monday April 1, 2013 Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.

Services will be held 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 2, 2013, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Chapel . Internment will follow in the family plot in Elgin Cemetery.
