Wilford Doyle Scott

March 26, 1927 — February 2, 2013

WILFORD DOYLE SCOTT age 85, of Elgin passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on February 2, 2013 and entered into his heavenly, eternal rest.

He was born on March 26, 1927, an only child to Henry David and Maude Elizabeth Hibbs Scott in the community of Hog Eye, Texas. He was delivered at home by Dr. W.E. Woods. His family then moved to Elgin, Where he spent the remainder of his life and developed many lifelong friendships. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Elgin.
Soon after World War II, he joined the Navy for a brief period and had great recollections of being stationed near Sheepshead Bay, New York. Once he returned to Elgin, Wilford worked at the Elgin Courier as their printer. He decided to “hit the open road” and became a truck driver for local numerous brick companies until retirement.
Wilford has a passion for movies and music from his era, travel, and his lovely wife of fifty-two years, Janie Marie Carter Scott, and family of five children. In his mid-sixties, he started his illustrious track “career”, winning international titles in the 100 meter and 200 meter sprints while setting national records. He was inducted into the Texas Senior Hall of Fame in 2007. He won the Masters division in 2002 at the Penn Relays and received the coveted gold watch for that year. He cultivated friendship across the nation with other senior athletes and competed in track and field competition as far away as Gateshead, England and Oahu, Hawaii.
He is survived by his spouse, Janie Marie Carter Scott, daughter Sandra Jane Lake and husband, Paul of Coppell. Son Wilford Tracy Scott of Elgin. Daughter, Suzette Elizabeth Roberts and husband, Scott of Pflugerville; Samantha Autumn Ballard and husband, Cecil of Manor; and Shellsea Spring Ruden and husband, Brian of Taylor. Granddaughter Stephanie Nicole Camp and husband, Brian of Leander.
Wilford enjoyed the love and affection of his spouse and children. He was such a loving and expressive father and husband and will be sorely missed by family and friends.
The recent joy of Wilford’s life was his two precious twin great-grand daughters Addison Elizabeth and Briley Ann Camp.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Tuesday, February 5, 2013, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Celebration of life services will be held 10:00am Wednesday February 6, 2013, Providence-Jones Family Chapel. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.
