Ira Mac (Dickie) Parks

Ira Mac “Dickie” Parks was born on January 16, 1933 in Elgin, Texas to Perry McCaleb and Iva Mae Parks. He went to his eternal rest on January 19, 2013. Dickie attended Elgin schools where he was an accomplished athlete, and graduated from Elgin High School in 1951. A Korean veteran, Dickie entered military service in 1951 and served in both the Navy and the Air Force. Dickie was an electrician for many years and was a member of the IBEW. In addition, he was a longtime member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Dickie was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sheila, and his brother Marvin.

Dickie is survived by his wife, Arlene Parks; son, Dale Parks and daughter-in-law Joni; stepsons Morris Jones and Jimmy Kylberg; brothers, Walter O. Parks and Barnard W. Parks; sisters, Billie Garza and Perry May Hill; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family; and special nephew Ronald Garza and wife Peggy.

Dickie was a very special, golden-hearted individual with a wonderful sense of humor. He was blessed beyond measure with many very dear and supportive friends. He is much loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 also at Providence-Jones at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Elgin Cemetery.
