Julia "Judy" Wood

Julia Mae “Judy” Bridwell Wood, age 89, of Elgin, Texas, was called home on Monday, November 26. She was born March 14, 1923 in Austin, Texas to Leonard Lonzo Bridwell and Gertrude Lois Bucks Bridwell.

After graduating from Austin High School in 1942, Judy was employed by the State of Texas Department of Health and worked there from September 4, 1944 to February 24, 1961, serving in the Crippled Children’s Division. She was a devoted and valued employee, who left her position only after her husband’s military transfer.
Julia married James Bernard Wood on July 16, 1958 at the Base Chapel at Bergstrom Air Force Base. During his tour of duty, the two of them traveled to many interesting places and enjoyed the military life. Judy and Woody celebrated fifty-four years together as a married couple and remained devoted companions until his death in October of this year.

Judy’s welcoming smile, warm handshake and twinkling eyes served her well. Judy simply loved life and those she knew. She was a delightful person, genuine friend, a devoted Christian, and the perfect example of how to live this earthly life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Johnie Rae, Ernest Alvin, Emmett Leroy, Vernon Lonzo and one sister, Bertha Louella Bridwell Fisher, and her husband, Woody. She is survived by three nieces, one nephew, and several great nieces and great nephews.

A special ‘Thank You’ to the staff and medical professionals at South Park Meadows Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center and New Century Hospice. Your sincere kindness in caring for her was a blessing not only to her but to her family members.

On Thursday, November 29, family and friends may pay their respects from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home in Elgin, Texas.

On Friday, November 30, at 11:00 a.m., a celebration of life and funeral service, provided by Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, for Julia Mae Wood will be held graveside at the Masonic Cemetery, 7401 Circle S Drive in Austin, Texas.
