William H. “Red” Everhart

Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and friend, entered into eternal life on November 3, 2012. Born May 10, 1932 in Empire, Alabama, he was the son of the late John Henry Everhart and Margaret Carthon Dillion.

“Red was a nickname that was given to him due to the color of his hair and his skin tone. As a young child, he was reared in the towns of Empire, Alabama and Six, West Virginia. “Red” was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Six, West Virginia and confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. After schooling, Red became a member of the United States Marine Corps and fought in the Korean War. He was a pioneer in that he was one of the first African American non-commissioned officers to serve in the United States Marine Corps. Upon his return, he lived in the Great Lakes Region of the United States.
He was a worker in the steel industry for Donna Hanna Coke in Buffalo, New York. In the mid 1960’s, he relocated to Washington D.C. area where he met the love of his life Willie Lee Santiago. Willie and Red were married in Newark, New Jersey and later resided in Rahway, New Jersey until his retirement from the State of New Jersey Transit System in 1990. He then moved to Cedar Creek, Texas to retire alongside his wife Willie.

Red was an avid blues and jazz enthusiast and loved to cook. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and working on his Word Finders, and the game of golf… to let him tell it, he was good! He especially loved people whenever he could and would spend his time with family and friends. In addition to his parents, Red was preceded by his wife Willie L. Everhart, his sister Ruby Everhart, his sister Juanita Lasiter, his brother Robert “Jug” Everhart and his cousin George White.

Memories will always be cherished by his son Derek M. Everhart of Cedar Creek, Texas along with daughter-in-law Bessie S. Everhart, grand-daughters Jessica M. Everhart, Janae S. Everhart and Jacqueline E. Miller, great-grandchild Thomas E. Miller and his loving sister Mary Barkley of Buffalo, New York and a large host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Home Going Celebration 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Entombment following at Cook-Walden Capital Parks, Pflugerville.
