Donnie Gene Prather Sr.

Donnie Gene Prather, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on September 29, 2012 from a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Donnie was born in Lexington, Kentucky August 5 1938 to Corrine and H.M. Prather, Sr. And has been a resident of Austin, Texas since his transfer with IBM in 1965.

“Don” married Helen Clemmons on December 2, 1955 and was hired by IBM in January 14, 1957. He retired from IBM, Austin in 1987 after receiving numerous achievement awards throughout his career.

Don was an avid golfer and loved to travel. He was a member of Spring Valley Golf and Country Club in Lexington and later a member at Balcones Country Club in Austin. He was extremely proud of his son, and always gave his darling wife a hard time over the silliest things. This created a lot of laughter among the family.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife Helen Prather; his son Donnie Prather, Jr. (Fredella); Mary Olson his grandchildren, Cristin Adkins, Stefanie Casebier (John Casebier dad) , McLean Prather, Donnie Prather, III; and 5 great grandchildren; His sisters Martha Larison and Joan Stephens.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Sonnie and Buddy; and his sister Helen Simmons.

The family will have a private service.
