Maynard H. Norwood

God has put another rose in his garden.
Maynard Harvey Norwood at the age of 88, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 7, 2012.
Maynard was born June 22, 1923 to Joe Ben & Odie Mae Peacock Norwood in Del Valle, Texas. He served in the US Navy during World War II.
On January 23, 1944, he married the love of his life, Dora Alice Burton and had two children, Gerald Lynn and Alice Marie. They moved to Elgin, Texas in 1953 where he became a rancher/farmer and welder. In 1973 he joined the Masonic Lodge #328, and quickly became a Master Mason in 1974. He remained a member for 38 years while serving in several positions, including two terms of Worshipful Master in 1980 through 1981 and again 1991 through 1992.
Maynard was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, his mother and father, and siblings Laverne, Maxine and Morris.
Maynard is survived by his sister Janelle Caldwell and husband Rowe, brothers’ Hilton, Lester and wife Kathryn, Marvin and wife Ann, his son Gerald (Jerry) and wife Patricia, and daughter Alice Marie Sedberry and husband David (Buck). Additionally, four grandchildren, Sherry Sedberry and fiancé Rudy Galindo, Tricia Dawson and husband Stephen Jr., Amy Sedberry Roth and husband Rodney, and Nancy Maxwell and husband Clint, eleven great grand-children, Kristel, Mandy, Trey, Maegan, Lane, Kayleigh, Coleman, Stephen III, Avery, Sydney, Jackson, four great-great grand-children, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Maynard worked hard all his life for his family. He was a good friend to many and would help anyone who needed it. Due to his honesty and straight forward way of speaking, many close friends and family say “If he told you something, you can take it to the bank!”
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 10th between the hours of 6 & 8 pm. Services will be held Wednesday, April 11, 2012, Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 Highway 95 North, Elgin, Texas, at 10:30 am. A graveside Masonic Service will be held immediately following at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
