Joe C. Ross

July 2, 1946 — February 27, 2012

Joe C. Ross (aka Honey, Dad, Daddy, Pop, PaPa, Poppy, Big Joe), age 65 of Elgin, TX, passed away peacefully on Feb. 27, 2012. He was surrounded by his wife and four children.
Born July 2, 1946 in Centralia, IL to John Dee and Elizabeth Ross.
Joe lived his younger years in the Centralia area, attended Sandoval High School and Eastern Illinois University. On November 8, 1967 he married Glenda McCoy and began the journey of dedication, loyalty and giving to his wife and family. A celebration of 44 wonderful years together through all of life’s chapters and what a book they wrote together!
Through the years, Joe served his community as his children’s ball coach, church youth leader, served on his children’s school board, church finance committee and Elgin Chamber of Commerce.
Joe owned and operated his own construction company, Joe C. Ross Excavating, in Centralia before moving to Texas in 1984. Once in Texas, Joe and Glenda started their own cable TV construction company, J.R.’s Cable Services, Inc. He enjoyed many years with all of his children and wife working alongside him.
Joe and Glenda opened “GiGi and PaPa’s Place” in downtown Elgin in 2002, and enjoyed serving and socializing with the residents of Elgin.
Joe loved gardening and spending time outside on his and Glenda’s property in Elgin.
Joe retired in 2006 and devoted his time to his wife, children and seven grandchildren. Nothing could put a smile on his face any faster than a call from one of the grandbabies just to say “I love you to the moon and back papa” or one of them running through the back door to his chair. There was nothing like a ride on the Ranger with Papa through his make-believe jungle.
He will always be remembered as a gentle, giving and loyal man of not many words.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, John Dee and Elizabeth Ross; brother, Bill Ross.

Joe is survived by his wife, Glenda Ross; Children: Kim Ross of Round Rock, Joe Ross of Austin, Kelly Tanner of Elgin (and son-in-law, Marty), and Jeffrey Ross of Round Rock (and daughter-in-law, Teana); Grandchildren: Braxton, Tucker and Kayden Tanner, Emily Ross, and Caden, Presley and Abbey Ross; Brothers: Barry Ross of Elgin and Johnny Ross of Hoffman, IL; and many friends and family members.
