Neely “Neal” Williams
Neely Mae “Neal” Williams passed away with trust and grace on February 1, 2012. She was born April 1, 1918 in Stamford, Texas to Hazel and Otis “Buster” Walton. At the age of 15 she moved with her family to Abilene, Texas, where she graduated from Abilene high School in 1935. She attended Hardin-Simmons University.
Neal married William J. (Bill) McCreight on October 7, 1937. She operated a small insurance agency and lovingly cared for Bill during his long struggle with multiple sclerosis until his death in 1965. She married Dr. William H. Williams, Jr. in 1968. They moved to Austin in 1976.
Neal was an active member of Hyde Park Baptist Church. All who knew her are aware of her great faith, love of family and friends, and her passion for style, lipstick, and Wendy’s hamburgers.
Neal was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved sister Dosey Reeves, her husbands, and great grandson Daniel Boone Wilbur.
Neal is survived by her daughter, Nancy Carter, son, Dr. Joe McCreight and wife Susan, bonus daughter Ann Williams, and her other beloved sister Jack E. Chisholm (until the end she considered her sisters to be her very best friends). Neal is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She loved one and all dearly.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Hospice Austin and many thanks and much love to her dear friend Joe Lee Washburn.
A memorial service will be held Monday February 6 at 1:00 p.m. in the Christ Chapel at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin.
