Prentiss Richardson

Prentiss Richardson, 87, passed away at his home in Elgin, Texas on the evening of January 16, 2012. “PR” was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who delighted in spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandchildren. He was born and raised in Drip Rock, Kentucky on September 8, 1924 and was the only child of Tom and Nettie (Goosey) Richardson of Drip Rock, KY and Connersville, IN. PR had a long and successful career in management with IBM. He was among the original 200 employees who relocated from Lexington, KY to Austin, TX in 1967 to establish the Austin IBM location. He, his wife, Ruth, and their children, Ron and Charlotte, made their home in Austin. In 1979, PR and Ruth purchased a 100 acre farm in Elgin and settled there. He loved working on his farm through the week, but weekends were reserved for his family. If not with family, he was happiest when with his beloved wife on one of their frequent trips around Texas enjoying Bluegrass music with their many Bluegrass friends.

Ruth preceded PR in death on February 9, 2011. His longing to be with her was obvious throughout the past year. On the evening of January 16, 2012 he went to be with her and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

PR is survived by a son, Ron Richardson and wife Sara, of Elgin, and their children Heather Johnson and husband Jay, Adam Richardson and wife Kaylyn, Melody Davis and husband Brian, Valerie Hopkins and husband Forrest, Stefanie Miller and Joseph Miller; and a daughter, Charlotte Vires von Minden and husband Bobby of Elgin, and sons Jason Vires and wife Beth and Ivan Vires and wife Misty; a brother-in-law, Ledford Lancaster and wife Shirley of Irvine, KY.; and two sisters-in-law, Mae Richardson of Connersville, IN and Sue Babb of Richmond, KY. He is also survived by fourteen loving great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home. Services will be Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11 AM at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home with burial following at Youngs Prairie Cemetery.
