Betty J. Mewis

Betty Jean Mewis, age 80 of McDade formerly a lifelong resident of Austin , Texas passed away Friday, September 23, 2011 of natural causes. Betty was born in Tyler, Texas July 7, 1931. Her parents were Lee and Mabel Kerwin. She married Edward Mewis July 4, 1952. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, son; Lee Carpenter, daughter; Brenda Barnett, and two brothers. She is survived by her daughter; Loretta Jean Johns, son-in-law; Rick Johns, of McDade, Six Grandchildren, Four Great-Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews , her lifelong friend Vida Mae Bagby, and God daughter; Evelyn Robinson and husband Terry. She worked as a waitress at Kirschner’s Café in Austin and was Named “Best Waitress in Austin” for several years. She then went to work for Texas Intruments in 1976 and retired after 20 years of service on August 2, 1996. Betty received numerous awards for her outstanding contributions to cost saving and technical manufacturing ideas. She was quite a character that was infectious to all who loved and knew her. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00pm Monday, September 26, 2011. Funeral Service will be 1:30pm Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home Chapel with Interment following at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery Pflugerville, Texas. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home.
